Education
Education is crucial to improving animal welfare and we are keen to share our knowledge and expertise on donkey care and welfare. Information is readily available and we frequently give advice to animal health professionals, including vets and farriers. We are hoping that in the near future we will be able to visit schools to give talks to help children understand more about donkeys' needs as well as the vital role of the donkey in Cypriot history.
Equine veterinary facilities can be somewhat limited in Cyprus and it can be difficult for professionals to gain experience in equine health problems, particularly concerning donkeys. For some time now we have been working on building relationships with Government Veterinary and Agricultural Departments. Each district has its own small group of Ministry Vets and Animal Inspectors as well as private vets.
In 2014 we provided the first training course of its kind to the Veterinary and Agricultural Department in Limassol with over 30 attendees. Following the success of the seminar we are hoping to be able to provide the same training to the other districts.
By doing so, this will increase awareness and improve the health of donkeys on the island. We are hoping to raise funds so that we can continue the seminars for all districts. If you would like to help us work towards providing better care for the donkeys and mules in Cyprus please make a donation.
