Lorraine

Lorraine

From a small village not too far from the Sanctuary, Lorraine arrived in 2002 aged 12 years. She had many severe wounds which were promptly treated and fortunately healed very well. Despite her ordeals she is a very gentle and kind donkey with a wonderful temperament - a real lady.

Lonnie

Lonnie

Lonnie came to the Sanctuary in 2004 from a small village called Alona high up in the Troodos Mountains. His owner's wife had unfortunately died and he was not able to look after the donkey that was rather boisterous. The journey to collect Lonnie was a little treacherous as there was still quite a lot of snow on the mountains and sheer drops at the edge of the track.

Hercules

Hercules

Hercules came to the Sanctuary in 2001 as a 3 month old foal. His mother had died and he had been hand-reared and rather spoilt. He didn't understand that he was a donkey and the people caring for him were humans – he thought it was great fun to climb all over people and generally do what he liked!

Chloe

Chloe

We collected Chloe in May 2007 from a small village in the Troodos Mountains after a villager had contacted us when he had heard that Chloe's elderly owner was going to poison her. Chloe was only 3 years old at the time and the owner had found her too young and boisterous to handle and work.

Ben

Ben

Ben belonged to an English owner who unfortunately was too busy to look after him. Ben was 8 years old when he came to the Sanctuary in 2003 and a very handsome and strong donkey he is. He likes being round people and we are sure he knows how good looking he is as he seems to like to pose for photographs. Avery happy little chap who appreciates lots of fuss and cuddles.

Beau

Beau

Beau arrived here in Vouni in 2005 aged 8 years. He had been abandoned in a village near Limassol and was found eating beans belonging to a rather irate farmer! He had two nasty large wounds on his face which were treated by the vet. Beau is an unusual colour for a donkey in Cyprus - more of a typical Eastern European donkey grey with the well recognised cross.

Adopt a donkey

Don't forget that a great way to support us is by adopting one of our Super Six Adoption Donkeys and all for only €15 per year (€20 from 1st January 2011)! Beau, Ben, Lonnie, Lorraine, Chloe and Hercules are the donkeys that are available for adoption. You will receive a certificate and our newsletters. An Adoption makes a great gift too and if it is for a special day, let us know the date and we do our utmost to make sure you receive it in time to give to the person you have bought it for.

You can help us even further if you agree to receive the certificate(s) by email. By doing so you will receive four e-newsletters per year instead of the usual two paper newsletters! Emailing saves us a great deal of money which we can then use for our donkeys. It also helps the environment.’

Please remember that it's only our Super Six that can be adopted.

Please contact us if you would like to have a picture of your chosen donkey (or donkeys). We have larger photographs, bookmarks and calendars available to purchase.
