2009 - busy times ahead
The first thing we all would like to say is a huge thank you to all of our supporters, old and new, for the amazing response to our last newsletter. It goes without saying that without you, we wouldn’t be able to care for our donkeys or do the work we do. Not only have we received more requests for adopting our Super Six and wonderful donations but lovely messages of kind words and compliments. It is so encouraging for us and, of course, the donkeys are the ones who benefit from your generosity.
Just as Christmas was approaching things seemed to be settling down a little bit here. The number of donkeys waiting to come in had gone down, our isolation donkeys had joined their new friends and all of the donkeys were doing well. Then came 2009 with a rush! We suddenly had lots of donkeys waiting to come in, staff catching bugs, urgent welfare work and, believe it or not, rain!
We desperately need the rain here but none of us like it! Mind you the donkeys are the lucky ones – they get inside their barns and seem to be chuckling at the staff outside who are all dripping wet!! When we can we get the donkeys out for a nibble of grass and other plants they like so there is always an upside.
You may remember in the last newsletter that we were planning on moving some of our donkeys to sites near to the sanctuary.
Well our first one is underway and by the time you read this we are hoping that 25 of our donkeys will be in their new home. The only problem we now have is that, as fast as we find a way of making more room for the donkeys at the sanctuary, the more we have waiting to take their place. We now have 132 at the time of writing so 2009 looks to be even busier than last year!
