The donkey that came and went

Sterako

We received a call from an Englishman living in a nearby village about a donkey that suddenly turned up at his door. After calling us, several local mayors and police were contacted to try and find out who she belonged to. As we had no luck we collected the donkey, thanked the gentleman for looking after him and brought him back to the Sanctuary.

Very overweight and with long front hooves, Sterako (we named him after the village he was found in) received a thorough vet check and had his feet attended to. Ironically, a week later, an elderly man came to the office and told us we had his donkey. Unfortunately for Sterako, but fortunately for the owner, the donkey had a slight hernia on his left side so it was soon confirmed the donkey belonged to the man.

We explained how we had found the donkey and asked him to take better care of him and that we would like to help by paying a visit now and again and make sure Sterako had his feet done regularly. The owner was very grateful for this and to get his donkey back. He was also pleased that we would go and see him regularly to make sure everything is alright.

Sterako's feet and teeth are now in good condition and our vet says his small hernia is not going to cause him a problem.
