More room for our donkeys!
On 24th and 25th of March we moved 30 of our donkeys to our new second Holding Base. Following the success of our first Holding Base which was completed 10 months ago and now has 36 donkeys, a second site was found towards the end of last year. The land owner has put a great deal of effort into creating a lovely flat, well fenced area. We have constructed two large, well ventilated barns that have rubber matting on the floors, new feed troughs and a store area. The site has been designed so that we can have four groups of donkeys which will make it easier to control the donkeys weight and food. Also, as we have a variety of sizes, ages and temperaments, we are able to put similar donkeys together which is good for their mental health as well as their physical well-being.
We will also now be able to give the remaining donkeys at Vouni a little more room and make some changes to some of the less suitable paddocks.
It’s been a lot of hard work but well worth it to see our donkeys have the space to gallop around on level ground and roll in the dust, which they love to do just after they have been groomed! The people looking after them have been trained and our vet and farrier will continue to attend to their needs and we will ensure they receive the standard of care we provide to all of our donkeys.
As always, these things are only possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters. With your help we can continue to make sure our donkeys come first, second and third.
