Moving 10 donkeys to Holding Base Sterako

Donkeys arriving at our holding base

Another 10 donkeys we were able to move from our Sanctuary to our Holding Base at Sterako, not far from Vouni, Limassol on Wednesday 27th January. Even though we are in the heart of the winter, the weather was very kind to us and the transportation was done smoothly without the rain ruining our precious work!

We started early in the morning at 8am, one or two donkeys were not sure what was happening so were a little difficult to get onto our horse trailers for transportation. But all in all they went on very well. After three trips to Sterako the job was completed at midday.

When we got to Sterako, the Holding Base owner Tommy and his partner Ina, helped us to unload the donkeys and walked them into their new field. The donkeys then went investigating their new home. A couple sniffed the ground and found a nice place for a roll. Others went to the fence to meet their new neighbours in the next field. The field they are in is large with plenty of room to roam and run around. There is also a large mound of earth which they can climb on and see the surrounding area including the two fields next to them and see all their neighbours. All the donkeys seemed surprised at the ground being dirt and not stone and concrete, which they used to live on.

It is such a pleasure to see our donkeys enjoying their new environment and be able to move around and do things they really love. This make us feel fulfil because they really deserve it and after all this is our aim!

I am sure they will come to love their new home, just as the other 26 donkeys we moved there last have done.

We can make this happen because it's thanks to our supporters' generosity and we are very grateful for this but especially our donkeys!
